Sharavati Valley

There is indeed a lot of drama going on at this place but it does not happen in a hurry. Don’t have any expectations and you’ll be rewarded richly. Indeed, when people speak about the ecology of the Valley, it could be difficult to relate to it anywhere upstream of Gerusoppa, because Sharavathi may appear formidable and unstoppable there. When you reach this place, she may suddenly appear vulnerable!

Another kilometer down the road and a short trek through the foliage on the right side will lead you to a second view point. This is even more private and precious because you can feel the calm with which the river is heading out towards the sea. She, is simply going with the flow which she doesn’t seem to have caused.

Looking at the Valley is something you can do in all seasons, including a heavy downpour! What you must do, however, is to look out for the monkeys too. They are generally after whatever looks like food, so take care of your belongings.

As the View Point is right beside the highway, most travelers simply park their cars nearby and climb the 20-odd steps to discover their own vistas.

Standing at this Point, you will find Sharavathi Valley opening itself up before your eyes. Mountains stand in layers, letting the river find her way among them. Irrespective of the time of the day and the year, it has a very special appeal, as sunlight keeps playing games constantly with this landscape, painting every colour known to man! It is a bit difficult to find different angles to shoot your pictures; however technology can help you get some breathtaking shots.

About 26 km from Jog Falls while travelling towards Honnavara, we come across the Sharavathi View Point. This stretch has innumerable curves and bends passing though thick forests, with views of hillocks on either side whenever the woods give a respite. Here, you have a chance to pause and marvel at Nature.
