Vadanbail

Paddy and arecanut are the main crops grown in this region as there is no dearth for water here, downstream of the Dam and preceding the water intake point.

The Bhootaraja Temple is venerated by the local population as they seek dissolution of their problems such as being cheated, loss of money, witchcraft and more. Once their wishes are fullfilled they offer pumpkins in multiples of 5nand also tridents (trishul) made of steel, brass and other metals.

Vadanbyle is a small village on the banks of Talakalale Balancing Reservoir and houses the water intake point for power generation. As a result, written permission from KPTCL at Jog Township will be required to reach here. It is about 14 km from Jog Falls, and the famous Jain temple for Goddess Padmavathi is located about a kilometre beyond the checkpost. Buses ply from Sagar and Jog Falls at limited frequency.

Nagapooja is also performed at the temple. The idol is about 7 feet in height; besides daily worship, special poojas are conducted personally by Guruji Veerarajaiah Jain every Friday hence the temple witnesses a large gathering of devotees seeking the blessings of the deity as well as the Guruji.

The idol of Padmavathi Devi, believed to be over 600 years old, was originally located at Hebbailu along Sharavathi river and was once patronised by the Vijayanagara Empire. Hence the goddess is also addressed as Hebbailamma. When Linganamakki Dam came up, the deity was shifted to an elevated area. It is surrounded by an anthill. Devotees throng this temple praying for the fulfilment of their wishes. Childless couples and others offer bundles of bangles to the Goddess in prayer & gratitude.
